To achieve this moving forward, the national MatNeoSIP focus has been placed on two main clinically based workstreams:
- Early recognition and management of deterioration of women and babies
- Optimisation and stabilisation of the pre term infant.
In addition to these clinical workstreams a strong focus will be placed on providing support to:
- Improve safety culture in maternity and neonatal teams
- Implement the Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF) to facilitate effective shared learning from incidents to achieve improvements in care.
All MatNeoSIP work is in alignment with the Maternity Transformation Programme, The British Association of Perinatal Medicine and all other national priorities on the safety landscape.
This work is part 2 of a 2 phase improvement programme continuing to build on the previous Phase 1 Maternity and Neonatal Health Safety Collaborative Quality Improvement coaching and support that all trusts benefited from between 2017 and 2020.
